So you turn on your laptop and it powers on, but the screen does nothing. Your first instinct might tell you that the computer is broken. Don’t go throwing it agains the wall or out the window just yet, you may want to try one of these tricks first to save some of your hard earned money from buying a new one.
Sometimes computers get stuck in sleep mode and it ends up resulting in your screen doing nothing when you turn your computer on. Hopefully this is the case for you because there are a couple things you can do to easily fix it.
I’ve seen these methods below work on Dell, HP, Toshiba, Acer and most other Windows based laptops.
Try These 3 Steps:
1.) While the laptop is turned off, take the battery out and keep your power cord to the laptop plugged in to a power source. Press and hold the power button for up 30 seconds. If you see the screen light up during this process, you can then hit your power button and start windows normally.
2.) If step 1 did not work, then try removing your memory (RAM) card and then re-insert it. Sometimes this will do the trick to reset the memory. Just be sure you remove the battery from your laptop and make sure it is not plugged into a power source when doing this step.
3.) If steps 1 and 2 don’t work, I suggest hooking your laptop to an external monitor. If the computer is working on the external monitor you may have a bad LCD screen or possibly a loose connection to the screen.
If you do have a bad screen, those are not very easy to switch out unless you have prior experience doing so. I would suggest taking it to a local computer repair for a diagnosis.
